Barnes Wildlife Control Knows The Many Ways To Rid Carpenter Ants. But, You need to identify them first!

We Believe in Carpenter Ant Environmental Control First And Foremost

How do you identify whether you do have carpenter ants?

In Ohio, the black carpenter ant is the most common species. Carpenter ants have many features. The colors of carpenter ants range from black, red, brown, tan, yellow, or some combination thereof. Ohio Carpenter Ants are black. Also, like other ants, these ants have a small waist and bent antennae. Carpenter ants have a rounded thorax and one node between the thorax and abdomen. Also, fringe of hairs surrounds the anal opening at the end of the abdomen. Also, there is more hair spread over the body.

As you may know Carpenter Ants can have wings. Usually, a colony does not produce winged males and queens until it’s several years old. At that time the colony is made up of 2,000 to 3,000 workers. Winged males are smaller than winged queens. Wingless queens measure 5/8 inch, winged queens 3/4 inch, large major workers 1/2 inch, and small minor workers 1/4 inch. Workers have some brown on them, while queens are black. Workers have large heads and a small thorax while adult swarmers have a smaller head and large thorax.

Carpenter Ant Prevention

Barnes Wildlife Control Carpenter Ant Removal Service use these steps which prevent carpenter ant infestations.

  • We always fix moisture problems, leaks in roof, and plumbing leaks.
  • Barnes will trim back tree limbs or branches since they create bridges to your structure.
  • Also, we seal cracks and openings in and around the foundation.  Furthermore, we seal places where pipes and wires enter from the outside.
  • We suggest you allow us to stack firewood away from the house and off the ground. Why? Firewood is a favorite nesting place for carpenter ants.
