Fire Hazard from Chewed Electrical Wires
From the moment a rat or mouse is born, their teeth continually grow and in order to maintain sharp teeth and proper length, they have to chew. Romex electrical lines in your attic are perfect candidates for rodents to chew on and if not controlled early on, the electrical wiring can be damaged to a point where it needs to be replaced. Countless house fires that go undiagnosed as the root cause are often deemed rodent wiring damage as the probable cause.
Rodents (Mice & Rats) Are Nocturnal And Will Keep You Awake At Night
Besides the risk of disease transmission to people or pets living in the home and the risk of the house catching fire from damaged electrical wires, customers complain most about the lack of sleep they are getting. Many rodents such as mice, rats, and flying squirrels exhibit nocturnal tendencies and are active mostly at night. The scurrying about in the attic and the scratching sounds in the walls will wake most people and once awake the worry about the critters coming into the home keep them awake the rest of the night. Your best option to get your restful night’s sleep is to call Barnes Wildlife Control and ask about our rodent removal pest control services.

The 3 Most Common Rodents Found In The Miami Valley Region Of Ohio
Barnes Wildlife Control Provides Professional Rodent Control Services To Get Rid Of The Following Rodents
Deer Mice
Often found in fields and woodlots but when your home has gaps that provide a pathway to shelter or food, deer mice will take advantage as they are opportunists. These mice range in color depending on climate, demographics, and species. Tan, brown, or black in color, with tails of varying lengths are common with white on undersides or belly. They scavenge and will feed on any food available to them.
This species female adult mice are able to reproduce every month as young mice reach maturity in several weeks and can begin mating.
Usually we find them in yards, fields, attics, walls, and kitchen areas. Deer mice are capable climbers and have no problem going up vertical surfaces such as brick and wood.
Being that they are a rodent that are known chewers, they often gnaw on wood, foam insulation around piping, and electrical cables.
Deer Mice are often found in fields and woodlots but when your home has gaps that provide a pathway to shelter or food these pesky rodents will find their way into your home and live in the attic.
House Mouse
The house mouse is by far the most common nuisance rodent pest we find in southwest Ohio. They are able to adapt to most environments inquisitive and their preferred foods are bird seeds and nuts and we often find them stored in your attic.
This breed of rodent thrives in a suburban environment and reproduction tends to occur throughout the year.
House mice average five to ten litters per year, each one consisting of between four and eight young. The young are born pink and practically hairless, blind and with undeveloped ears.
They are fully furred after 14 days and weaned after 18 – 20 days, when they begin to emerge from the nest and can start breeding more mice within just a few months.
Barnes Wildlife Control will take care of your bread eating house mouse problem.
Norway Rat
Also known as “common rats,” “water rats,” or “sewer rats, we sometimes also find Roof Rats living in Dayton and Huber Heights homes as well. The Norway, or brown rat lives near mankind as it flourishes off human and livestock waste and leftover garbage. We find most rats living in basements, on the ground floor, or in burrows under sidewalks or outbuildings; usually drawn into the barn or basement by stored food or warmth and shelter. They appear to be most common about feed stores, cattle barns, chicken houses, and garbage dumps.
These rats are prolific breeders. The gestation period varies from 21 to 23 days and the number of young from 4 to 12, averaging 7 or 8. At birth they are blind, naked, and helpless but they grow rapidly; their eyes open in 14-17 days and they are weaned when 4 weeks old. When you see a rat in your house there is no time to procrastinate. Rats are highly intelligent and will learn from failed trapping attempts which can hinder their removal. If you find rats living in your home please call our trained professionals at (937) 340-1867 for rat extermination service.
